Atrya Technologies has secured a crypto-asset service provider license under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation (MiCA), issued by Latvijas Banka, Latvia's central bank and national competent authority for crypto-asset supervision.
The license positions Atrya Technologies to offer crypto-asset services across all 27 EU member states through MiCA's passporting mechanism. Under the framework, an authorization granted by one national regulator — in this case Latvijas Banka — allows a provider to operate throughout the bloc without seeking separate approvals in each jurisdiction.
MiCA came into full application for crypto-asset service providers in December 2024, replacing the patchwork of national regimes that previously governed the sector. Latvia designated Latvijas Banka as its MiCA competent authority, joining regulators such as France's AMF, Germany's BaFin and the Netherlands' AFM in issuing CASP authorizations.
For Atrya Technologies, the authorization carries direct operational consequences. It subjects the firm to Latvijas Banka's ongoing prudential and conduct supervision, including capital requirements, custody safeguards, conflict-of-interest rules and disclosure obligations set out in the regulation. It also imposes compliance obligations that scale with the services the company provides — whether custody, exchange, or execution of crypto-asset transactions.
The operational upside is equally concrete. Passporting removes the need for country-by-country licensing, cutting legal overhead and shortening expansion timelines. A single Latvian authorization now functions as an entry ticket to the entire EU single market, a structural advantage MiCA deliberately created to consolidate crypto activity under one supervisory roof.
The license also carries reputational weight for institutional counterparties. Banks, payment institutions and corporate clients increasingly require CASP authorization as a precondition for onboarding crypto service providers, since MiCA status signals adherence to EU anti-money-laundering and consumer-protection standards.
Latvijas Banka has positioned itself as an accessible issuer of MiCA licenses among EU regulators, and Latvia has attracted a growing queue of applicants seeking authorization through the Baltic jurisdiction. Firms that secure approval now enter the market ahead of the transitional windows expiring across member states, after which operating without a CASP license will no longer be lawful anywhere in the EU.
Atrya Technologies now faces the next phase: building out its service offering under Latvijas Banka's supervision and demonstrating sustained compliance as MiCA enforcement matures across the bloc.
