Ledger has unveiled Atom, an Android-based hardware wallet with Solana Mobile integration and updated tamper-detection hardware. The Paris-based company introduced the device while an investigation continues into modified units of its prior-generation wallets that were intercepted before reaching customers.

Atom is Ledger's first device built on Google's Android operating system. The shift positions the company beyond its legacy proprietary firmware, used across the Nano S, Nano X, Stax, and Flex product lines. Atom runs Android directly, enabling third-party applications and broader mobile-wallet integration than previous Ledger devices.

The Solana Mobile component pairs Atom with Solana Labs' smartphone platform for transaction signing. SOL and SPL token holders gain a hardware-signing path through the device. Atom operates alongside the Saga and Seeker handsets in Solana Labs' mobile ecosystem.

What tamper protections does Atom ship with?

Atom includes a hardware-level verification step during boot, designed to detect physical modifications before a user enters a recovery phrase. Ledger has not disclosed the specific secure-element architecture or attestation protocol used. The system builds on tamper-detection principles Ledger has applied across its consumer line.

The feature targets a specific attack pattern: physical interception of devices between manufacturing and customer delivery. Modified units were designed to capture recovery phrases entered on altered screens. Atom's verification step is intended to surface such modifications before credential entry.

How does the Solana Mobile integration work?

Atom communicates with Solana Mobile devices through a wireless pairing. The integration enables transaction signing without a wired connection on supported Android handsets. Ledger has not disclosed whether the pairing requires a dedicated companion application or operates through standard mobile-wallet interfaces.

The integration extends Ledger's reach on the Solana network. Solana Mobile operates its own application distribution and ships two smartphone models — Saga and Seeker — through a consumer channel. The pairing positions Atom as a hardware-signing alternative to Solana Mobile's built-in key management.

What is the status of the modified-unit investigation?

The investigation into modified Ledger units remains open. Ledger has not disclosed the number of affected devices, the jurisdictions involved, or whether law-enforcement agencies have been engaged. The company has indicated that customer updates will follow as the inquiry progresses.

The Atom launch during an active investigation signals a strategic shift. The product's tamper-detection features are positioned as a structural upgrade rather than a firmware patch. Ledger has not indicated whether existing Nano, Stax, or Flex devices will receive similar hardware updates.

When will Atom be available?

Ledger has not announced pricing or a shipment date. A waitlist has been opened on Ledger's website for existing customers. The company has indicated that pre-registration is required for initial access and that the waitlist will close once production capacity is determined.

The Atom launch closes Ledger's first product cycle under its current hardware roadmap. The waitlist will serve as the operational checkpoint for initial production runs; Ledger has not indicated when the waitlist will convert to confirmed orders or whether it will expand beyond existing customers.
