Only 29.2% of Tokenized Asset Value Has Verifiable Onchain Data

A report highlighted by Centrifuge finds just 29.2% of tokenized asset value shows verifiable onchain holdings. Its V3.2 update moves NAV and accounting into smart contracts.

Outputs

  1. Only 29.2% of tokenized asset value has verifiable onchain holdings data, per a report highlighted by Centrifuge.

  2. The tokenized RWA market was valued between $34 billion and $39 billion as of early October 2026.

  3. Centrifuge announced its V3.2 update with the Onchain Portfolio Manager on October 5, 2026.

  4. Centrifuge TVL is estimated between $1 billion and $1.8 billion, with over $2 billion in assets tokenized historically.

  5. Centrifuge is integrating Chronicle Labs Proof of Asset oracles for cryptographically verifiable attestations.

Only 29.2% of tokenized asset value has verifiable onchain holdings data, according to a recent report highlighted by Centrifuge, the real-world asset tokenization platform. Less than a third of a market valued between $34 billion and $39 billion as of early October 2026 can actually be checked on the ledger it lives on.

Centrifuge is treating that figure as the central problem of the tokenization industry: putting a token on a blockchain is not the same as proving what sits behind it. Its response is a product update and an oracle integration, both aimed at making holdings and valuations independently checkable.

What did Centrifuge ship?

The company announced its V3.2 product update on October 5, 2026. The headline feature is the Onchain Portfolio Manager, which moves cross-chain accounting, net asset value (NAV) calculations and trade execution into smart contracts rather than offchain spreadsheets and intermediaries.

The update extends smart-contract-based management to multi-asset vaults, including treasuries and equities. For Centrifuge, this marks a shift in scope: the platform is no longer just issuing tokens but managing whole portfolios in a programmable way.

The second component is verification. Centrifuge is working with Chronicle Labs to implement Proof of Asset oracles, which provide independent, cryptographically verifiable attestations of what assets a fund holds and what they are worth.

Why does the 29.2% figure matter?

Apply the verification rate to the overall market and the scale of the problem comes into focus. More than two-thirds of tokenized value lacks verifiable onchain holdings data, which means investors are relying on offchain reports and the reputation of whoever issued the token.

Centrifuge's own numbers give context for its position in the market:

  • Total value locked is estimated between $1 billion and $1.8 billion across multi-asset deployments
  • The platform has tokenized more than $2 billion in assets over its history
  • Growth is driven by products such as tokenized treasuries and credit
  • Traditional finance partners include Janus Henderson and New York Life Investment Management

The verification gap has direct operational consequences. A DeFi lending protocol that accepts a tokenized treasury fund as collateral needs to know, in real time, what that fund holds and what it is worth. If the answer lives in a monthly PDF from an administrator, the token is onchain but the trust model is not.

What changes for institutions and DeFi builders?

Centrifuge frames verifiable holdings data as a prerequisite for institutional adoption, risk management and broader DeFi integration. For risk managers, onchain verification means exposures can be monitored continuously rather than reconstructed from periodic reports. For DeFi builders, it means tokenized assets can be composed into other products with clearer guarantees about their backing.

The trust shift is real but partial. Oracle-based attestations move trust rather than eliminate it. Investors relying on Chronicle Labs' Proof of Asset feeds are trusting that the oracle's data sources and methodology are sound. That is a narrower and more auditable form of trust than relying on an issuer's word, but it is still trust concentrated in a new intermediary.

Moving NAV calculation and accounting into smart contracts also introduces a different category of risk. Code can be audited, but it can also contain bugs, and errors in automated portfolio logic could propagate quickly across chains. Institutions adopting the Onchain Portfolio Manager will effectively be swapping counterparty and administrator risk for smart-contract and oracle risk.

What is the metric to watch?

The 29.2% verification rate itself is the industry's scorecard. If it climbs meaningfully in future reports, the tokenization sector is closing its transparency gap. If it stays flat while the overall market grows toward and past its current $34-39 billion range, the distance between what tokenization promises and what it delivers will keep widening.

For now, Centrifuge has tied its product roadmap directly to that number. The V3.2 update and the Chronicle Labs integration give issuers on the platform a way to place their holdings data onchain in a form outsiders can verify. Whether the rest of the market follows, and how quickly the verification rate moves in subsequent reports, will determine whether transparency becomes a competitive requirement or remains a differentiator.
