Strategy Books Record $20.91 Billion Q3 Operating Income as CFO Kang Exits
Strategy posted record $20.91 billion Q3 operating income on bitcoin mark-to-market gains as CFO Andrew Kang departs; STRC buybacks and daily dividends reshape the capital structure.

Outputs
Strategy booked $20.91 billion in Q3 2026 operating income, the largest in its history, mostly from bitcoin mark-to-market gains.
CFO Andrew Kang announced his departure in the same release; net income was $19.53 billion, or $44.75 per diluted share.
Strategy holds 848,517 BTC worth $68.9 billion at an average cost of $75,446 per coin; BTC yield is negative 3.7% year-to-date.
The company repurchased 20,980,508 STRC shares for $2.04 billion at an average of $97.39, below the $100 stated amount.
STRC begins daily dividends on November 1, 2026, with STRF, STRK and STRD following on January 1, 2027.
Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) reported the largest operating income in its corporate history on Thursday, booking $20.91 billion for the third quarter of 2026, with the overwhelming majority derived from a paper gain on the company's bitcoin holdings rather than from its operating business.
Net income reached $19.53 billion, or $44.75 per diluted share, up from $2.79 billion in the third quarter of 2025. The announcement coincided with the departure of Chief Financial Officer Andrew Kang, disclosed in the same release.
Kang framed the headline figure without embellishment: "Q3 operating income of $21 billion was the largest ever in Strategy's history."
How the number was built
Strategy marks its bitcoin to market each quarter, so every price move in the token flows directly into earnings. The rebound in bitcoin during the period did most of the work. As of October 23, the company's 848,517 bitcoin were worth $68.9 billion at a token price of $81,200. With an average acquisition cost of $75,446 per coin, the position sits roughly $5,800 per bitcoin in the black on paper — about $5 billion of unrealized headroom across the stack.
Kang credited accumulation discipline as the engine of the quarter, saying the company "increased our bitcoin holdings by 26% year-to-date in a challenging bitcoin market."
The operating business told a flatter story. Total revenue fell 3% year over year to $125.4 million, below analyst estimates of $127.2 million. Gross profit came in at $89.6 million, a 71% margin compared with 70% a year earlier. Strategy ended September with $2.50 billion in cash and equivalents plus $3.40 billion in short-term investments.
What does this change for shareholders?
The metric management treats as its primary yardstick — bitcoin per share — moved the other way. The BTC yield stands at negative 3.7% for the year, meaning each share now carries less bitcoin than it did in January. Measured in dollars, the bitcoin position shows a $2.03 billion loss over the same period.
To fund preferred dividends and buybacks, Strategy has sold roughly $431.8 million of bitcoin this year, according to the release. The company raised $21.23 billion of capital in 2026, including $5.41 billion in net proceeds from its at-the-market program during the third quarter alone, and deployed a substantial portion into its own preferred stock: it repurchased 20,980,508 STRC shares for $2.04 billion at an average of $97.39, a discount to the $100 stated amount.
Chief Executive Phong Le positioned the buyback as rehabilitation of the security: "Strategy demonstrated its commitment to returning STRC to health." Management intends to continue purchasing while STRC trades below par, with approximately $956.7 million remaining under the authorization. STRC touched $99.99 earlier on the reporting day; a sustained return to par would reopen the preferred as a funding channel for bitcoin purchases, though the company has not confirmed a restart of STRC issuance.
Daily dividends begin November 1
Strategy's dollar reserves now total $5.07 billion, comprising a $4.83 billion USD Reserve and $242.4 million of USD Cash. The company says that cushion covers 3.4 years of dividend and interest obligations — a runway of over three years at current payout levels. The board held the STRC dividend rate at 12.00% to support trading near the $100 stated amount.
Shareholders approved a shift to daily dividends on October 28. STRC begins paying daily on November 1, with STRF, STRK and STRD following on January 1, 2027. Le cast the change as positioning for a structural shift: "Daily dividends are a natural step toward the tokenized, 24/7/365 financial system. Digital Credit is being built for that world, and Strategy intends to lead it."
Strategy also expects its preferred distributions to count as a non-taxable return of capital for ten years or more, on the basis that it does not anticipate positive accumulated earnings and profits.
With the daily-dividend transition now weeks away and Kang's successor yet to steer a full quarter, the November 1 STRC payout start marks the first operational test of the new distribution architecture.
