Luxor Raises $16 Million to Scale Bitcoin-to-AI Compute Pivot
Luxor Technology raised $16 million led by CMT Digital, with Canaan and MicroBT participating, to scale its cloud platform, AI hardware desk and compute-derivatives trading.

Outputs
Luxor Technology raised $16 million in a strategic round led by CMT Digital, with Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead and angels participating.
The round follows the September launch of Luxor AI, extending its Bitcoin mining stack into AI and high-performance computing.
Luxor's hardware desk has traded $1 billion of mining ASICs; its energy arm services over 75 megawatts across two U.S. grid regions.
Its cloud platform processed 1.8 million workloads this year as of September.
Its OTC desk offers cash-settled options, forwards and backstops on compute-rental indexes.
Bitcoin mining infrastructure firm Luxor Technology has raised $16 million in a strategic round led by CMT Digital, the venture arm of Chicago's CMT Group, with participation from hardware manufacturers Canaan and MicroBT, plus Halo, Steelhead and angel investors. The Seattle-based company will deploy the capital to scale its push into AI computing power, the latest structural shift by crypto infrastructure firms toward artificial intelligence.
The round combined primary and secondary capital. Luxor framed each investor not as a passive financier but as an operating partner already embedded in the compute supply chain it serves — spanning hardware, capital and power. The presence of Canaan and MicroBT, two of the largest ASIC producers, signals that the hardware layer itself is underwriting the transition.
What does Luxor actually bring to the AI market?
The raise builds on the September launch of Luxor AI, a segment that extends the energy, hardware, software and trading stack the company developed for Bitcoin mining into AI and high-performance computing. Luxor brings a substantial operating record to the effort:
- Its hardware desk has traded $1 billion of mining ASICs.
- Its energy arm services more than 75 megawatts of load across two U.S. grid regions.
- Its cloud platform had processed 1.8 million workloads so far this year as of September.
To put the energy figure in context: 75 megawatts is roughly the continuous draw of tens of thousands of American households, and it gives Luxor precisely the asset AI developers now struggle to secure — grid interconnection and power capacity.
The company said it will use the new funds to scale the cloud platform, provide working capital for its AI hardware business, expand its compute-derivatives trading desk, and fund engineering and go-to-market hires.
The derivatives angle
The most operationally distinctive piece is the over-the-counter desk. It already offers cash-settled options, forwards and backstops on compute-rental indexes — effectively turning AI computing power into an instrument that can be priced, traded and hedged like a commodity. For practitioners, this is the clearest signal of Luxor's intent: it is not merely renting GPUs, it is building the risk-transfer layer around compute itself.
"Compute markets are converging: the same miners, power sites and capital that served digital mining are now powering AI," said Nick Hansen, Luxor's CEO and co-founder.
A sector-wide stampede
The move tracks a broader industry-wide pivot. Bitcoin miners have increasingly repurposed their power and infrastructure for AI, with some signing billion-dollar hyperscaler deals and others selling Bitcoin holdings to fund the shift. Analysts at VanEck and Bernstein have cast miners as unlikely power brokers in the AI race, citing their rare access to the electricity and physical sites that data centers require.
What does this change for the sector? It deepens the capital pipeline from mining-equipment and energy incumbents into AI compute, and it accelerates the emergence of a hedging market for compute pricing. With Luxor now funded through the scaling phase of its cloud, hardware and derivatives businesses, expect the competition for powered sites and compute-linked financial products to intensify over the coming quarters.
